When did you do it? / What did you do to achieve?

I spent six months at home two years ago during the COVID-19 outbreak. At that time, I didn't have a lot of work to do and led a sedentary lifestyle. I looked unfit as a result, gained a lot of weight, and a lot of people began body-shaming me. So, I decided to start working out at that point, and I worked hard for six months with discipline, commitment, and dedication.

I got up daily at four in the morning and mixed walking and running. I also went to the gym in the evening to perform a variety of aerobic and non-aerobic workouts. I looked to the guys who were losing weight in the gym for inspiration. In addition to working out, I paid close attention to what I ate. During my intermittent fasting practice, I ate all my meals between 9am and 7pm.

How did you feel about it?

My metabolism increased, and I began to burn a lot of fat. My body started to change after a month, and I had significantly lost weight by the end of six months. I felt good about myself because I had met my goal and became very confident with my body.

Why did that achievement make you proud?

I was pleased with myself since I responded appropriately to people who had previously made remarks about me because I was overweight. In addition to that, I also felt healthy and fit, which increased my energy for work.

Conclusion

In the end, I felt very satisfied and proud of myself for achieving this success.

IELTS speaking part 3 - Follow up questions

Question: Do you feel terrible when you fail to do something?

Answer: It is undeniable that no matter how hard we strive, we will eventually encounter difficult circumstances in life. The greatest course of action whenever we face difficult circumstances is to control our emotions to avoid damaging our relationships with our loved ones. Furthermore, our best efforts sometimes don't pay off, and things need time to settle and of course, it is enough to make one feel upset. However, I always believe that waiting for the ideal moment is a smart strategy in such a situation. Accepting the situation and living your life in the altered circumstances is preferable if it is beyond your control.

Question: How do we measure a person’s success?

Answer: Measuring achievement is quite challenging. The word "success" is quite individualised, with various meanings for individuals. For some, success is defined as having a significant income. For some other, it is defined as living a life that allows them to assist others. For a student, success is defined as passing the tests with good scores. Thus, it is difficult to measure success.

Question: Is failure a necessary thing in people’s life?

Answer: In my opinion, it is. We could never experience success if we never knew defeat. We can never enjoy the day if we don't know about the night. We can never experience happiness without unhappiness.

Question: Do you think the way people gain success has changed?

Answer: Certainly, the way people attain success has changed due to advancements in technology, adjustments in work environments, a focus on well-being and soft skills, alternative career paths, social media, cultural shifts, and the requirement for lifelong learning. A broader and more nuanced understanding of success has emerged from these advancements, enabling people to pursue their objectives in ways that are congruent with their circumstances and ideals.

Question: Is it important for young people to have some achievement?

Answer: Accomplishments from an early age give us confidence and emphasise the value of hard work. However, one must consider that we still have time to succeed; it should only take a manageable amount of burden to succeed at an early age.

Question: How do you define success?

Answer: Success is a very hard concept to describe. The term "success" is quite challenging to justify. It has diverse meanings to different people. For some people, success is defined by their income. For some, success entails living a life that allows them to assist others. Their performance on their tests determines a student's success. Thus, defining success is difficult.

Question: What are your thoughts about failure and success and their mindset amongst the young generation?

Answer: The younger generation is more resilient, has a different definition of success, is more entrepreneurial in thinking, is ready to resist social pressure, accepts failure as a teaching opportunity, and recognises the value of having a supporting community in both failure and success. This evolving way of thinking represents a more thorough and individualised strategy for reaching goals and overcoming challenges.

Question: How do you reward successful people?

Answer: Rewarding successful people includes acknowledgement, financial incentives, professional growth, career advancement, and consideration for their well-being. The approach should reflect the person's goals and achievements as well as the values of the company or community. An efficient incentive program promotes continued development and contributions and acknowledges prior successes.

Question: What qualities does a person need to have to be successful?

Answer: The individual must be a diligent worker. He ought to be an effective communicator. Also, he should be brave enough to take measured risks and go beyond their capacity. But the most importantly he needs to be a kind and considerate person.
