IELTS speaking part 3 - Follow up questions

Question: What are the differences between the young and old when choosing where to live?

Answer: Since there are many jobs available in cities, young people always choose city living in order to advance financially. In addition, people have access to a wide variety of leisure options in developed regions, such as shopping centres, movie theatres, cafes, pubs and so on. On the other hand, elderly individuals would rather spend time with their family. Thus, they overlook the cutting-edge amenities and recreation areas. They generally prefer to live peacefully in their hometown. However, in the event of an emergency, they search for reputable medical institutions that are available in urban areas.

Question: Do Indian parents encourage their children to work in other countries?

Answer: It's true that Indian parents push their kids to work overseas. They insist on it to secure a brighter future, more chances of employment and higher living standards. However, some families appreciate the fact that students should live and grow in their home country rather than abroad.

Question: If you had an opportunity to live abroad, which country would you choose to settle down in?

Answer: If given the chance to live overseas, I would prefer to relocate to a developed nation such as the USA, Canada, Australia, etc. These countries have excellent infrastructure and a very pleasant standard of living. Moreover, in comparison to India, the level of living standard and job opportunities is far higher.

Question: What are some factors that attract people to settle down in certain places?

Answer: There are many different reasons why people choose to settle down in particular areas. Some move to the developed cities in search of improved infrastructure, highly regarded schools, well-organised offices, a wide range of employment options, appealing malls and movie theatres, and more. Some relocate in search of serene surroundings, meaningful scenery, etc.

Question: Should young adults work while staying abroad?

Answer: Yes, young adults should work when overseas, for a variety of reasons. These include covering their living expenses, relieving their parents of some of their financial load, developing their independence and responsibility and gaining experience in a foreign workplace culture that will benefit them later in life. It's also a great way to meet new people, form friendships and gain insight into that nation's culture.
