May Intake Canada

May Intake Canada

Overview

Canada is one of those study-abroad destinations where most Indians reside. It is one of the most friendly and welcoming foreign nation for Indians. The country has a lot of working Indians, as well as many Indian international students.

Universities in Canada are top-notch and offer quality education with their research-oriented institutes. Most students wish to study in Canada because of its educational standards. Canadian universities have made remarkable growth in the past 2 decades and established themselves as one of the top study-abroad destinations. Degrees from Canadian universities are accepted worldwide, and students have been known for grabbing well-paying jobs across the globe.

Canadian universities offer admission in three major intakes September, January, and May intakes; these are also known as fall, winter, and spring intakes, respectively. Admissions are offered in all these intakes, but selected universities offer admission to international students in May Intake. Admission in May intake Canada is also offered only in limited courses.

Unlike the other two intakes, the number of course options is less in the May intake. Hence, the acceptance rate for May intake in Canada is also high.

May intake Canada is widely known as summer intake. Its semester starts in May, and the deadline for application is not fixed. Till the seats are available colleges are open and very few Universities are open for some specific courses. May intake can be the best option for students who want to study available courses (of May intake) and have low marks in the entrance exam. Due to less competition, students can easily get into top Canadian Universities.

When to Apply

Each university has a different deadline for May or Summer intake. Students have to apply at least 8-10 months before the intake starts. This will also give them plenty of time to for the whole process smoothly. SDS visa has to be filed at least 90 days before the commencement of the course.

How to Apply

The application process of Canadian universities is not similar to Indian universities. Students cannot get into universities by just applying; they need proper consultation to avoid rejections from universities. Students are required to prepare a proper timeline and follow step by step guide to making an application to Canadian universities without any mistakes.

Research

May intake Canada offers very limited courses, so students need to do proper research before applying to universities. In the May intake, they must research all available programs and which top Canadian universities offer them. This step must be completed in the month of July of the previous year. Further, while researching, students should note down all their options with their admission requirements and deadlines.

To make the research step easier and short, one can also visit an experienced Canadian Counsellor. They can simply break down the admission process of every university to the students.

Appear for Exams

Several universities in Canada demand English proficiency exam scores (IELTS, PTE, Duo lingo, or TOEFL). Some universities provide waivers on these exam scores, but if the student chooses to apply for an SDS visa, then they must have an IELTS exam score.

Other exams are also required by universities depending upon the course chosen by the students. Such as GMAT/GRE Score and LSAT for business management and law courses, respectively. Consulting an experienced counsellor helps students in knowing in what exam scores they can waiver. It makes the application process much easier.

Application

The next stage is to submit applications to institutions after narrowing down your list of top choices and having all of your exam results. One should apply to all universities that offer the course they want, as relatively few seats are available during the May intake, and only a few universities provide admission. Students should be alert about application deadlines and apply on time to avoid chaos later.

The application process can only be done once, so ensure it is done well. Students can spend a month or two gatherings all their documents and writing essays and SOPs. Not all universities mandate SOPs, but universities who do review them properly. So the universities that accept SOPs evaluate student future goals and why they chose to study in Canada.

Confirmation Process

After successfully applying to all the colleges, students usually receive mail from universities or colleges in 30-45 days. Students are advised not to delay in replying to the colleges. If the conditional offer letter is sent to the students, one should fulfil those conditions as soon as possible.

If you're accepted on the first try, and the university directly sends you the offer letter, do not delay in depositing the fees. Some universities use the first come, first serve strategy; if you don't want to lose a chance to study at your dream university, respond to an offer letter on time. After fulfilling the conditions of the offer letter. Students will receive a Letter of Acceptance after paying the fees. Students can apply for an education loan after getting the offer letter from the university.

Visa and Education Fundings

Once the student gets a letter of acceptance from the universities, they can start applying for a Canada student visa. Various universities in Canada can give you an IELTS or English proficiency exam waiver, but when you apply for an SDS student visa, the IELTS exam score is mandatory. Even if you're applying for a non-SDS student visa, an English proficiency exam score is also required. For the SDS stream student need to pay one-year tuition fees and one year of living expenses.

Students will receive the PPR request if their visa got approved and If the Canada High Commission is not satisfied with their profile then students will receive a refusal letter.

Departure

After you get your Visa stamped, it is time to start packing your bags and preparing to study abroad. The semester of May intake in Canada usually starts in early May, so it is advisable to reach Canada at least a month before. It helps in finding the right accommodation and gives students some free time to adjust to a new environment.

International credit or debit card is one of the crucial things you need before departure. Make sure you have a working card that helps you in managing finances.

Documents Required

Studying in Canada is great, but one must have all original documents to make the application process easier. Having the right documents also makes it easier for the university to approve applications at first. Here's the list of documents that are required in May intake Canada:

  • Application form

  • 10th and 12th standard mark sheets

  • Bachelor's mark sheets (if opting for a master's degree)

  • State of Purpose (SOP), describing your aims and future plans after completion of the course

  • Personal essay (if required)

  • Letter of Recommendation (LOR)

  • Health insurance

  • Update CV/ Resume

  • Study permit and Visa

  • English proficiency exam scores

  • GIC account

  • Bank statements

  • Portfolio (for specific courses)

Some universities may ask for additional documents based on your application. Some course-specific entrance exam scores, such as GMAT/GRE scores for business and management courses or LSAT for law courses, can be required.
