The examination is given over a video interface in the customised online scenario and the candidate will receive a score based on their performance from the competent professional examiner. During the cue card, the candidate will speak for one to two minutes, one minute is reserved for preparation.

Describe when someone gave you something you really wanted cue card- sample answer 1

Introduction

Gift-giving is a language of love in which people give gifts such as clothes, footwear and food items. One such incident happened during my 12th standard, which I will share today.

Who gave it to you?

Being a fine arts student, art supplies were important to me, and one such thing I wanted to experiment with was Staedtler colour pencils. So my maasi (my maternal aunt) gifted it to me on my birthday.

What was the thing?

Those were the colour pencils/watercolour pencils, which we could use as normal colour pencils or use water on a normal pencil to turn it into watercolour. When I was in the 12th standard, Staedtler pencils were very expensive, but they were the only company that had these quality pencils available in the market.

When did you receive it?

I received those, having a set of 48 shades pencils on my birthday as a surprise. I have been meaning to ask my aunt for those pencils for a long time, and I even mentioned them in passing, but I never expected her to get them for me.

Why did you need it?

As I mentioned earlier, as fine arts students, we had to prepare portfolios using different painting techniques and mediums. Along with portfolio making, I have always been intrigued by different painting mediums as we learn more about art and keep it fun and creative.

How did you feel about it?

I was pleasantly surprised to receive the unexpected gift. I had never thought that I would get such an expensive gift as a teenager. I was also excited and happy to receive the gift as I started thinking about what I would draw and paint with those pencils.

Conclusion

To conclude, receiving those Staedtler pencils till date has been one of the best gifts I have received from a family member.

Describe when someone gave you something you really wanted cue card- sample answer 2

Introduction

Whenever people think about gift-giving, they think of materialistic things, but it is unnecessary for gifts to always be materialistic. There can also be thoughtful gifts, like handwritten notes, something handmade as it shows more effort. Likewise, I have an incident to share where I received a gift like this.

Who gave it to you?

The gift I am talking about was given to me by my best friend, who was also my roommate in college.

What was the thing?

She gave me letters and handwritten notes. One day, while cleaning my wardrobe, I showed her certain things, like notes and wishes given to me by people. Then she got the idea of giving me the letters and expressing things.

When did you receive it?

I received those letters and handwritten notes on my birthday back in 2019. The best thing about the letters and notes was that she secretly made my friends write those letters for me.

How did you feel about it?

When my birthday started, I was not expecting the number of letters, gifts and notes I received throughout the day. After reading all the letters, I was overwhelmed with joy and happiness because all my friends had expressed things they liked about me, which made me realise many things. Overall, those letters and notes made my day and I have stored them as treasures with me to this day.

Conclusion

To conclude, gifts are subjective to the people giving or receiving them, as everyone gives them different meanings. Therefore, one should always be mindful while giving gifts and consider what the other person might like.

IELTS Speaking Part 3- Follow-up questions

Question- What should parents do when their children ask for things their friends have?

Answer- Parents should teach their children to distinguish between needs and wants. They should also be upfront and honest with their children about their financial limitations and affordability to foster a more responsible childhood and prevent children from putting pressure on their parents just out of societal pressure.

Question- Why do people buy things that are not necessary?

Answer- People frequently buy non-essential products due to their materialistic tendencies. Peer or societal pressure is an additional potential. People sometimes hoard goods in case they believe they may need them in the future.

Question- How do your friends influence your shopping choice?

Answer- My close friends offer me product recommendations. My friends are really devoted to their brands, so they watch for unique offers from different reputable stores. Take the current sale on Levi's jeans, for example. You can get two jeans for free when you buy one. Thus, we received two for free and spent Rs. 3000 for one. All that was required of each person was Rs. 1000 for a pair of Levi's trousers.

Question- What are the things young people like to buy?

Answer- Nowadays, young people tend to purchase various goods, such as apparel, footwear, electronics and a variety of other goods. Sometimes, they are inclined towards food items. Because of this, food baskets are a popular choice for gifting.
