Describe your First Day at School cue card- sample answer 1

Now, let’s get into some sample answers to “Describe your First Day at School” type of IELTS speaking cue card questions.

Introduction

In my life, I have attended two schools. When I was four years old, I lived in Udaipur. I enrolled in a preschool that was very close to our house. After finishing my primary education, my parents decided to change my school and shift me to a popular school in our city, where I could receive my further education.  I attended that school while I was in fourth grade.

Where was it?

I don't remember much about my pre-school; therefore, I want to talk about my secondary school. My school name is Storms Senior Secondary School, Udaipur. It is affiliated with the RBSE (Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education).

What happened?

The school was of 6 floors, including the basement and ground floor, with a huge garden and playground. My classroom was on the third floor of the building. It was double-walled for heat insulation, featured high-efficiency air-conditioning systems, used solar energy, and recycled and treated effluent. Apart from this, all the classrooms across the school had smart boards to provide assistance for students' practical education.

After searching for class, we started with the prayer, followed by every student's introduction. Ultimately, our school gave us chocolate as a token of love.

Explain how you felt on that day?

On the first day, I was really nervous and worried because I had heard a lot about the school's strict rules. Except for 12 students, my classmates were old students of the school. We arrived half an hour early for class and immediately felt at ease as we began to converse with other students.

Conclusion

When I came to the school in the morning, I only noticed my floor and the reception area. So, during lunch hours, I decided to take a full tour of the school campus. I was roaming around the school after lunch, looking at all the rooms, sports complexes, canteen, and labs. Although the school's rules were rigid, the teachers were quite welcoming, and the students were well-mannered. I went to that school from first to twelfth grade.

Describe your First Day at School cue card- sample answer 2

Introduction

When we begin asking people about the most precious days of their lives, then most of them would remember their school days. Indeed, those were the best days of everyone’s life.

Where was it?

I'm going to discuss my first day of school here. In my childhood days, I used to live in Vadodara, which was near to Ahmedabad. So, I joined the school in that town only. I heard from my parents, who were discussing about sending me to the nearby primary school. And hearing the news, I’ll be going to school made me excited. I was an inquisitive child who loved dressing up and attending school. Wearing a school uniform was quite fascinating to me.

What happened?

I still remember every kid around me in the school was upset, and several were crying and refusing to let their parents leave. On the other hand, I was so excited, completely confident and relaxed. On the first day, I made friends and shared my water bottle and snacks with them as instructed by my mother. Our teacher spoke to us and did an introductory session so that we could start getting to know and talking to each other. It was an amazing day. Also, our teachers made us feel so at ease with them and the rest of the school staff that I began to like going to school.

Explain how you felt on that day?

My emotions were quite positive. I was very impressed with my school and was eager to meet new people. It was a day filled with so much fun. I met various new people and made friends. We had various activities, and I enjoyed them all, so my first day of school was fantastic.

Conclusion

So, I ended up completing all of my primary schooling over there. All in all, I had an amazing day that I will always cherish.

IELTS Speaking Part 3: Follow up Questions

Question: What is the effect of parents' interference with children’s life too much?

Answer: When parents interfere too much in their children's lives, they either revolt or withdraw into a shell, becoming introverts. Their personality is ignored, and they cannot reach their full potential. Also, too much interference affects the individual growth of children.

Question: Should children rely on their parents or be independent?

Answer: Children will always be dependent on their parents. They are still in the learning phase. Therefore, dependency is beneficial till they grow. Meanwhile, over-dependence is harmful to children. So, once they start producing money, they should be able to live freely. It is, however, the responsibility of the parents to train their children to be self-sufficient.

Question: Do you think students should be taken to school by their parents or go by themselves?

Answer: Children in primary school should not walk alone to school. Parents should either drop them off or arrange for a van or bus. High school and secondary school students can attend on their own.

Question: How has your school experience affected your life now?

Answer: I have a foundation of information and abilities from my school days that I continually expand on. It has also helped me develop social skills and a love of learning, which I utilise in many aspects of my life.

Question: How did your first day of school stack up against your total school career?

Answer: The first day of school marked the start of a long and thrilling adventure that would transform me into the person I am today. It instilled in me valuable life skills such as resilience, adaptability, and independence, which have served me well in my academic and professional endeavours. In retrospect, I treasure the memories of that day and the subsequent experiences that shaped my personality and perspective.
