The speaking portion of the IELTS exam is one of the most important sections. Although there are many different activities in this section, one of them is cue cards. According to the given IELTS cue card topic, you have to talk and interact clearly. You get one minute to prepare yourself before speaking.

The question "Describe a piece of good advice that you gave to someone" is among the most often asked in cue cards. Many students might find this topic difficult to respond to despite this inquiry being relatively easy. This is why we have curated this blog to provide sample responses to guide and assist you in handling these kinds of inquiries.

So, let's get started with the blog!

Describe a piece of good advice that you gave to someone cue card- sample answer 1

Introduction

Advice is an opinion given by someone to guide or counsel them regarding a specific topic. Every human being, at some point in their life, requires guidance, and they seek that help from their friends, family, mentors, and anyone they can rely on. There was an instance where even I gave advice to my friend.

Who did you give advice to?

This one time back when I was in school, I gave advice to my now best friend regarding her choice of subjects in 11th standard. The person I gave advice to is Gunjan.

What was the advice? And Why did you give the advice?

The advice that I gave was for her to change her stream from commerce to humanities. This is because she always wanted to pursue art as a career option for herself. She wanted to become a designer, and in the first month itself, I saw her struggling with subjects in commerce. It was getting difficult for her to dedicate her focus to her art, which also hampered her entire performance.

How was it helpful and how did he/she feel about it?

My advice proved to be helpful in that she convinced her family to change her stream from commerce to humanities, and after she changed her subjects, she performed better. The good thing was that she started enjoying humanities subjects and could focus on her art as well. Today, she is an interior designer and is proud of her decision to change her subject in class 11th.

Conclusion

To conclude, good advice can change a person’s life, whereas misdirection can also be harmful. Therefore, it is imperative to be mindful while giving advice to anyone, whether a friend, an adult, or someone younger than you.

Describe a piece of good advice that you gave to someone cue card- sample answer 2

Introduction

The impact of good advice is crucial. It is imperative to understand that it can be life-changing for people. One should also be mindful when giving advice, as wordplay is important because good advice is wrongfully delivered and rifts apart many things in a person’s mind. Similarly, I had a chance to give my opinion to a family member.

Who did you give advice to?

A few years back, I came to know that one of my cousin brothers had become addicted to smoking. Upon asking the reason for smoking, he said that he was stressed due to work, family and some personal reasons as well. My brother is older than me, so I had to give my advice in a smart and subtle way, in the form of an opinion, while normally conversing.

What was the advice? And Why did you give the advice?

I advised him not to quit smoking but to reduce it while adapting to different relaxing techniques. Because I believed asking a smoker to quit smoking would be of no use. This would further agitate them and might even increase their smoking as well.

How was it helpful and how did he/she feel about it?

I introduced my brother to different breathing techniques, methods to reduce anxiety with the help of your sense organs, and much more. I even made an effort to keep a check on his habits. When he started indulging himself in these things, he couldn’t see a change, but over time, he has reduced his smoking and is proud of himself.

Conclusion

Hence, as good advice is important, the way of delivering it is equally important. Sometimes, opinions are presented in a good way, and their persistence turns out to be good pieces of advice.

Describe a piece of good advice that you gave to someone cue card- sample answer 3

Introduction

Advice can be good or bad, depending on how the person is receiving it. Sometimes, it is advised to seek opinions from professionals or from people engaged in the same activity you are confused about. Likewise, I gave good advice regarding career once.

Who did you give advice to?

I once gave advice to my younger sister. As we all know, deciding which stream to choose in school in the 11th standard is difficult, and similarly, choosing a career option for yourself is equally difficult. So, my sister needed clarification about pursuing law as a career.

What was the advice? And Why did you give the advice?

As a practising lawyer, my advice to her was to clarify the amount of studies she had to do and the career options after completing the studies. The picture of law has been glorified because of the film industry and drama, which greatly misleads students. I gave her advice because of this glorification and to show her the clear picture.

How was it helpful and how did he/she feel about it?

It was helpful because she understood the difference between what was shown in the movies and in real life. My advice clarified whether the kind of work that law requires is what she wants to do for the rest of her life or not. She then chose her stream accordingly and prepared with her whole heart for the entrance she was actually interested in.

Conclusion

To summarise, advice is good when given with a clear picture and clarity. It is important to convey your message clearly and with precision. Like in the instance discussed above, more than motivating my sister to pursue what she dreamt of, what was more important was to give her the clarity of the profession.
