Overview

The Canadian government has recently announced extending its Super Visa validity. It will allow parents or grandparents of PR holders and Citizens to visit them consecutively for 5 years without renewing their visa. Super Visas allow multiple entries with a validity of 10 years.

Till now, visitors could stay only up to 6 months in Canada. After 6 months, these visitors had to extend their visas and pay additional fees. The new rules allow them to continuously stay in Canada for 5 years along with multiple entries.

Requirements for Super Entry Visa

The Canadian government is strict about its visa regulations. One needs to fulfil these requirements to become eligible for a Super Visa:

  1. Applicant should be a parent or grandparent of a PR holder. The spouse or common law partner may be included in the application but dependents are not qualified.
  2. Applicant should have signed invitation from PR holder; this invitation should include:
    a. A declaration that the PR holder will financially support the visitors
    b. List of members in the household on the PR holder
    c. Copy of Permanent Resident or Canadian citizenship documents
  3. Visitors should have medical insurance from a Canadian insurance company. This insurance should:
    a. Be valid for at least one year from the date of entry
    b. Provide a medical cover of CAD 100000/-.
    c. Be attached with the proof of complete payment for insurance

In the invitation letter, the PR holder must prove that they can meet the financial needs of the visitor (parent or grandparent) as compiled by Low-Income Cut-off (LICO). The requirements are as follows:

Size of Family Unit

Minimum Necessary Gross Income

1 person (PR holder)

CAD 25,000- AD 26,000

2 people

CAD 32,000- CAD 33,000

The income mentioned above can be proved in these ways:

  1. 1. By providing a Notice of Assessment (NOA) or T4/T1 for the previous tax year
  2. 2. Employment Insurance benefit statement
  3. Offer letter of organisation PR holder is currently working in. This letter should include the hiring date and current salary.
  4. Bank statements of PR holder

Visa applicants (parent or grandparent) need to meet these additional criteria too:

  1. They must apply for Super Visa Canada from outside Canada
  2. Applicants should have proof of immigration medical examination
  3. No police case should be against them

To apply for Super Visa, an applicant must be the parent or grandparent of the PR holder. If the applicant is related to the PR holder in any other way, they can apply for a visit visa.

Process for Super Visa Application

As with any other visa, Super Visa also has a set procedure. A lot of documentation has to be done before applying for the visa. The process of applying for the Super Visa is as follows:

  1. One must confirm their eligibility for Super Visa. This can be confirmed by proving the relation to the PR holder or Canadian citizen and having all the documents mentioned above.
  2. File application for Super Visa
  3. Respond to the emails by IRCC and provide additional information needed for visa processing
  4. Send passport for stamping

After submission of the application, IRCC takes time to review it. Processing time for Super Visa depends on the visa office and documents submitted by the applicant. If the applicant has submitted all the documents at once, they can process their visa early. After processing, the passport and other original documents are returned to the applicant. If the visa is approved, the passport comes with stamped visa. Visa processing generally takes 8 to 55 days. It all depends on the application submitted by the applicant. Additionally, it may also depend on the country of the applicant.
