IELTS or the International English Language Testing System is one of the important test options to be focused on by every student planning to study abroad. Irrespective of the nation and the university the student is applying for, they need to have the minimum IELTS band score to be eligible (other English Language Proficiency exams exist but IELTS is the most widely accepted).
It’s not just university admission but also visa programs, job applications and any other global opportunities that emphasise the importance an IELTS result. This is because your IELTS score defines the English proficiency (reading, writing, listening and speaking abilities) of a candidate. Hence indicating whether the candidate will comfortably be able to reside in a nation or take admission in a course or not.
Table of Contents
The exam dates for IELTS are available all year long with offline exams being held on scheduled days at the respective test centres, whereas online exams are available at the student’s convenience. You can check out the “IELTS exam date 2025” to know more about the available slots and to plan your preparation accordingly.
Also, depending on your specific reason for going abroad you can plan for either IELTS Academic or IELTS General Training Exam. Both have been designed to ensure that the applicant’s eligibility for the program or scenario can better be justified. Hence, it is recommended to connect with reputed IELTS coaching in Jaipur or your local city, who can help you prepare better for the exams.
While appearing for the IELTS exam, it is recommended that you should meditate well, be stress-free and have a problem-solving mindset rather than being too concerned about results. Your attitude during the test day also has a significant impact on how you are going to perform in your IELTS exam.
Once you have appeared for the IELTS exam whether online or offline, the next step is to look for the results or the score.
However, before you proceed to check for IELTS results, you must wait for the minimum recommended time frame, which is as follows:
If Opted for IELTS Online Exam: The results are available within 6–8 days of submitting the exam.
If Opted For On-Paper Format: The results are available after 13 days of submission.
If Opted For On-Centre Computer Format: The results are available within 1–5 days.
If Appeared For IELTS UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI): The results are available post 13 days of the submission.
If Appeared For UKVI Life Skills: The results are available after 7 days of the exam.
Once the wait duration is over, you can head to the official website of IELTS to check your IELTS test scores or your IELTS Results. The IELTS scorecard is referred to as IELTS TRF which is an official record of your performance in your IELTS exam.
To further ease the process and to ensure that students don’t have to wait longer for the test results, then the students should opt for the test on the computer. These test results are generally available within 2 days of the test submission.
However, it is not certain that in every case that you will get your test score in 2 days. Occasionally, they might take some additional time extending it to a total of 5 days to calculate and deliver the results.
Yes, you can check the test results online on the official Test Taker Portal of IELTS. Whether you have opted for the online or offline IELTS test, you will get an email notification containing a link to view your scores.
The online portal reflects your IELTS score, but it doesn’t serve as an official confirmation of your performance. For the official records, you need a physical copy of your IELTS Test Report Form or TRF.

Once the results are declared the physical copy of the IELTS result or TRF is available at the test centre or is delivered to the candidate by post within 7 days. It depends on the option selected by the candidate or their preferences. However, apart from this, another option is to download the electronic version of your scorecard i.e., eTRF from the Test Taker Portal. The option to electronically download the scorecard is available on the portal within 1–8 days of submitting your test.
Downloading eTRF is also a preferable option as it allows the students to easily send it to the universities or the institutions they are applying to via email. Hence, such offers you the utmost convenience while applying to prestigious global universities.
When you are applying to global universities, they expect an original copy of the IELTS Test Report Form, and photocopies are not entertained. Hence, it is recommended that you take the print of the eTRF and send it to the university through mail.
Also, you can directly request on the IELTS portal to send the official copies of the IELTS Test Report Form to the universities (but are only allowed 5 additional copies). Also, to avail of such a service, the test taker needs to update the relevant details on the Test Portal within two years of taking the test.
But is it accepted?
Considering the global norms towards digitalization and paperless application processes, most of the reputed universities have now shifted to electronic versions. However, you should connect with experienced study abroad consultants to know more about the targeted university admission criteria or acceptance process.
