The Institution of Winchester is an English public research university located in Winchester, Hampshire. It was founded in the year 1840. Inr 2005, though, it was granted university status. The University's Chancellor and Vice Chancellor are Alan Titchmarsh and Joy Carter, respectively. The university's motto is "Wisdom ond lar," which translates to "Wisdom and Knowledge." The Cathedrals Group (formally the Council of Church Universities and Colleges or CCUC), an organisation of universities and university colleges in the United Kingdom, includes Winchester University.

Winchester has on-campus and off-campus living options, as well as private rented apartments. The University of Winchester campus is one hour from London and within walking distance of the city centre of Winchester. It is a historic cathedral city that was chosen as the capital of the kingdom of Wessex by Alfred the Great. It's also steeped in Arthurian history, with the castle housing King Arthur's famed Round Table. The city now has a vibrant cultural environment, which is mostly based on its literary past.
