Describe an Invention that changed people's life - sample answer 1

Introduction

Scientific discoveries have propelled human life into new dimensions, touching every facet of our existence. In this discussion, we'll explore a monumental invention that has revolutionised our lives: the Internet.

What is it?

The Internet, our chosen invention, stands as a game-changer in the contemporary era. Its influence has permeated nearly every aspect of our lives, reshaping the way we interact, acquire information, and navigate the world.

How has it changed people’s lives?

The most noticeable difference has been in the way we communicate. We can communicate with everyone at any time from any location. Beyond mere connectivity, the Internet has facilitated easier and more frequent communication with friends and family members, transcending geographical barriers.

What benefits did it bring?

As communication has become instantaneous, life has become faster. The Internet's impact extends beyond communication. It has influenced and enhanced our ability to purchase items, acquire knowledge, and access medical information. We have access to every luxury while sitting in the comfort of our home. However, it's essential to acknowledge the drawbacks. Some argue that the Internet has diminished respect for older generations as we now rely less on their guidance. The ease of accessing information online has altered the dynamics of seeking advice or suggestions from elders.

Explain if it is more important to older or younger people?

This makes us more self-sufficient but also makes our grandparents and parents feel less important. The rapid shift towards online platforms for various services leaves older generations grappling with the complexities of technology. Their discomfort with computers and the internet hinders them from fully capitalising on the benefits that the younger generation effortlessly embraces.  As everything is gradually shifting online, older people find difficulty in adjusting to it.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the invention of the Internet has undeniably ushered in a plethora of advantages, significantly transforming the way we live. However, it has also introduced challenges, especially for older individuals who grapple with the rapid evolution of technology.

The pervasive influence of computers spans across diverse industries and offices. They are integral in storing vast amounts of data and swiftly solving complex mathematical problems. Beyond mere calculations, computers play a pivotal role in facilitating global communication, connecting people from different corners of the world. The efficiency brought by technology allows us to complete intricate tasks in minutes rather than weeks. Furthermore, the computerised system allows manufacturing businesses to produce hundreds of automobiles in a single day, which would have taken years to accomplish.

What benefits did it bring?

Undoubtedly, computers can be a true and valuable asset that one can hold. They contribute significantly to scientific discoveries, whether it involves exploring new frontiers in space or making breakthroughs in various fields. From browsing the internet to managing vast datasets to calculating the rotation speed of planets in distant solar systems, the advantages of computers are truly immeasurable.

Describe an Invention that changed people's life - sample answer 3

Introduction

We live in a modern society where technology has an impact on everything. Nothing is done nowadays without the use of technology. Today, I'd like to discuss an invention that is really useful in our daily lives.

What is it?

In today's world, everyone has a smartphone. Smartphones play an important role in daily life. Its inception dates back to 1992, and since then, it has evolved into an integral aspect of our daily lives. Interestingly, while it took until 1995 for smartphones to make their debut in India, the country has now emerged as the world's second-largest smartphone market after 28 years.

How has it changed people’s lives?

The usage of smartphones has changed individuals' lives drastically. Nowadays, even schoolchildren carry a smartphone. It can be used to replace a variety of items, such as cameras, televisions, books, diaries, and so on. The ability to swiftly access a wealth of information has become a hallmark of smartphones, reshaping the way we collect and utilise data.

What benefits did it bring?

Smartphones have both advantages and disadvantages. So, we must use it mindfully. Smartphones facilitate seamless communication with family and friends, transcending geographical distances through calls and video chats. Apart from this, it can be used as a source of information or for reading books.

Explain if it is more important to older or younger people?

Smartphones hold significance for individuals across generations, yet their importance is particularly pronounced among the younger generation. For some, smartphones are essential tools for professional endeavours, while others leverage them for educational purposes. Or, for a few, maybe it is just a 12-inch thing that can be used to socialise with people.

Conclusion

Smartphones have evolved beyond mere gadgets; they have become an inseparable part of our daily existence. The reliance on smartphones is so pervasive that people often feel helpless without them, establishing a habitual connection that spans from the moment of waking to the final moments before sleep.

IELTS Speaking Part 3: Follow-up Questions

Question: Which invention do you think is most useful at home?

Answer: Well, I believe that kitchen appliance inventions are more useful because people work around the clock and generally struggle to cook food. So, with the help of a mixer grinder and blender choppers, they can now easily cook enormous quantities of meals. Apart from this, other household equipment, such as vacuum cleaners and lawnmowers, are also useful.

Question: How has technology made our life easier?

Answer: Life has grown more convenient with the advancement of technology. So much so that it is difficult to imagine a world without electronic instruments. We've become reliant on them in some way. We can now see the entire world from the comfort of our own homes. Online meetings on Zoom, Google Meet, Skype, and other similar tools have successfully brought us together under one roof.

Question: What can be done to help old people learn to make use of new technologies?

Answer: We can teach them the fundamentals of computer operation as well as language training and technical jargon. This can help them understand technical terms and handle modern equipment more easily.

Question: Is it more difficult for old people to accept new technologies?

Answer: I believe that change is tough for everyone and that the difficulty grows with age because the amount of time needed to learn new technologies increases with age. Rather than viewing it as an issue, I believe we should work on methods to make it easier for our elders to accept them.

Question: Why have many inventions occurred in the last 100 years?

Answer: People are now literate. They are more innovative, and their expectations have risen. So, every time, scientists create inventions to make this planet habitable so that humans can live comfortably.

Question: Will our life be better if we live without technology?

Answer: I don't believe so because most technology is essential to our daily lives. We couldn't imagine life without them. If a person uses a mobile phone on a daily basis and forgets to bring it to work, he would ponder about the messages or calls on his phone throughout the day, which is the truth. Technologies, on the other hand, have their set of drawbacks. For example, if we don't have a phone, we'll be thinking about different issues, such as nature or the environment, which I believe can increase our mental satisfaction.
