US Visa Appointment Upcoming Slots: New Updates for Availability

The United States Visa became a farfetched dream with more than 2 years of waiting time for an appointment. Dismayed students started seeing the entire process as futile as they were unable to book US visa appointments. Amidst this confusion, the US embassy went live on Instagram and Facebook to have a conversation with the Indian students. This brought some hope along with significant new updates on the US visa.

The live session by the US embassy included a Q&A session with Don Heflin, Minister Counselor for Consular Affairs, US Embassy. The primary announcement for the students was that interviews for a student visa will resume from mid-November and continue till the end of December. During the live chat, Heflin answered questions on visa wait times and visa processing in consular sections across India. Upon being asked a question about student US visas, he explained that in 2023, US visa interviews will open up in two slots - for the first half in mid-October and for the second half in mid-November.

Indian students make up almost 20% of the international students in the US. In 2022, the embassy issued a record-breaking 82,000 student visas (till September). Heflin reassured students with the fact that Indian students got more student visas than any other country. The delays were inevitable after the world struggled with reduced staffing and numerous pandemic-related disruptions.

Indian students who want to study in US are relieved to hear about US visa appointments will open soon. It is imperative that students avoid suspicious sources of information to learn about US visa appointments. International students should plan their study abroad journey according to the aforementioned updates given by US embassy officials.
