IELTS is the most well-liked language test among Indian students applying to overseas universities to study abroad. The exam is the most popular and widely accepted proof of English language proficiency. Universities abroad require decent scores on the exam to be accepted for admission. A good score bolsters the students’ application.

All students must take the Academic test, while everyone who needs IELTS results for a visa must take the General test. The IELTS exam in India will be conducted by IDP and not British Council. Registration for the exam can be done online or offline. The exam is administered in over 140 countries at over 16,00 locations.

There are no particular eligibility criteria to apply for the test, and it is open to all.

While preparing for IELTS is another topic, booking the test could be clearer for many. This blog will walk you through every step of the IELTS registration process.

What is IELTS Exam?

IELTS full form is International English Language Testing System. The British Council, IDP Education Australia, and Cambridge English Language Assessment have jointly organised the English language competence test. The exam is given to determine how well-versed the student is in English. The score ranges from 1 to 9, with 1 denoting a non-user and 9 denoting an expert.

The IELTS exam is crucial since it is the prerequisite for admission to most of the world's top colleges. All prestigious colleges in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, and more than 135 other nations admit overseas students who can demonstrate their English language ability through the IELTS exam.

IELTS Academic is for students wanting to study abroad, while IELTS General Training is to check the general English language proficiency for everyday purposes. General Training is appropriate for immigration purposes to New Zealand, Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia. Applicants can easily prepare for IELTS with the help of study materials available online or from books available in the market. You may also take help from our expert IELTS tutors in preparing for the test. Once you book the test, the test partners also ship a practice book to your home address.

In India, the IELTS exam costs INR 15,500 for both online and paper-based modes.

Who Conducts IELTS in India?

The IELTS exam is given at several test centres located throughout India by the British Council and IDP. 48 times a year, the IELTS exam is given to students and job applicants to gauge their level of English language competence.

Types of IELTS

The IELTS exam is typically of two types:

The exams are in two modes, i.e. pen-paper IELTS and computer-based IELTS. 48 days per year have been allocated for the IELTS exam by the British Council IELTS Global Schedule. You can choose the date from the available ones. It is advised that you choose the date three to four months before the application deadline of the university or college you are applying to.

Computer-based IELTS is available 7 days a week and 3 times a day. This gives students the time to register for the exam. There is no difference between computer-based and pen-paper IELTS. One is conducted virtually, and another is on paper.

Also, the result of the computer-based IELTS exam comes within 4-7 days after the exam is conducted. At the same time, the results of the pen-paper exam come after 13 days from the exam date.
