Applying for a scholarship isn't just about meeting the eligibility criteria. It's a good idea to think about why you want a scholarship, how it will help you and what you have to offer the Deakin community.

How to apply

All prospective students who apply will be automatically assessed for the scholarship and will be advised of the outcome after going through the selection process. There is no need to complete a scholarship application form.

How to apply steps

  1. Find your scholarship
Use our Find a Scholarship tool to browse what opportunities are available. Filter search by level of study and student type. If you're an international student, you can filter by citizenship type, too.

  2. Check entry requirements
This scholarship caters to students from all walks of life, from those experiencing hardship to those achieving academic excellence. You can find the eligibility criteria on individual scholarship pages.

  3. Check what supporting documents you need
You will need to submit supporting documents with your scholarship application. Different documents are required depending on the type of scholarship you are applying for.

  4. Check how to apply
We'll ask you to submit your application via email, a form, Deakin's Scholarship application portal or VTAC. Information is on the individual scholarship pages.

  5. Check scholarship closing dates
Make a note in your calendar to submit your application on time. Are you a current Year 12 student? Apply now – you don't need to wait until you receive your ATAR.

Deakin-Funded Scholarship Program

When you apply directly for the Deakin-Funded Scholarship Program, you'll be considered for all three scholarships if you meet the eligibility criteria. The program includes the Vice-Chancellor's Academic Excellence Scholarship, the Deakin Scholarship for Excellence and the Deakin Student Support Scholarship.

When are scholarships open?

At Deakin, we have three main scholarship application periods:

  • Trimester 1 from late August until March. Scholarship opportunities will open and close at different times during this period.

  • Trimester 2 from mid-June to mid-July.

  • Trimester 3 from late October to mid-November.

What happens after you apply?

After submission, your application is assessed and ranked. If you are successful, we'll contact you via email, usually within four weeks of the closing date. You can view your application status in your scholarship application portal account. Please note: if you don't hear from us, it means you've been unsuccessful.

Scholarship payments

If you're selected to receive a scholarship, your scholarship letter of offer or terms and conditions will list the applicable eligibility and special conditions.

Some scholarships will make a payment directly to your nominated bank account. If your scholarship covers part or all of your student contributions/tuition fees, payment will be applied directly to your fee account within four weeks after the census date.
