The University of Aberdeen is a well-known Scottish university centered on public research. It is a university that was founded in 1495 and is divided into 12 schools. The University of Aberdeen has recently been routinely listed among the world's top 200 universities. It was also ranked 31st in the world in the Times Higher Education University's 2019 impact rankings. Furthermore, it was named 'Scottish University of the Year 2019' by The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide.

The University of Aberdeen has a large and prominent alumni network. Many prominent individuals studied, taught, and worked in several disciplines at the institution. The university has 5 Nobel laureates among its graduates. Amongst several others, some of the most renowned personalities who have graduated from the University include Alistair Carmichael, former Secretary of State for the country Scotland, the former Paymaster General named Tessa Jowell, and the Exchequer's former Chancellor Alistair Darling.

Furthermore, postgraduate research programs (Masters by Research and Ph.D. programs) continue for the whole academic term and do not follow the normal semester dates listed on this page. The University's Christmas and New Year's break applies to all students, irrespective of their major.
