The University of Nottingham is a research-oriented university, which was established in 1881, Nottingham, England. It is a member of the Russell Group, Universitas 21, the Association of Commonwealth Universities, and the European University Association, and is the United Kingdom's fifth largest university.
The University of Nottingham is largely regarded as one of the best universities in the world, consistently ranking among the United Kingdom's top 30 higher education institutions. Nottingham subjects Pharmacy & Pharmacology (eighth in the world, fourth in the United Kingdom), Nursing (Twenty Seventh in the world, fifth in the United Kingdom), Veterinary Science (Thirty Sixth in the world, seventh in the United Kingdom), Education (Forty-Third in the world, eighth in the United Kingdom), and English Language & Literature (Forty-Third in the world, eighth in the United Kingdom) were all ranked Gold in the Teaching Excellence Framework (forty-eight in the world, sixteenth in the United Kingdom) In the Quacquarelli Symonds World Rankings by Subject, they also did well.
Nottingham receives one of the highest numbers of applications per undergraduate place in the United Kingdom, and admission to the university is extremely hard. There are currently over 30,000 students enrolled, with a little over 9,000 overseas students.
The University of Nottingham's Overseas Office provides a variety of services to international students before and during their studies to ensure that they have the best possible preparation and support in the United Kingdom. Arrival assistance and orientation for the University and the city, as well as opening a bank account, extending visas, social support, and English language assistance are all included.
In addition to various tours to sites such as York, Oxford, and Scotland, the University engages in programs that allow international students to meet and live with English people in their community in order to develop their language abilities and learn more about the culture.
According to the Virgin Alternative Guide to British Universities, the University of Nottingham is "one of the most employer-friendly universities in the world," ranking among the top 15 most targeted universities in the world by prominent employers in the Times Higher Education world rankings. The Sunday Times Good University Guide named the Nottingham Sports University of the Year for 2021, and it has also gained twenty-two Green Flag Awards for its green spaces. According to the 2014 Research Excellence Framework, Nottingham is now ranked seventh in the United Kingdom in terms of research power. Over Ninety-Seven percent of the University's research is recognized internationally, with eighty percent designated as world-leading or internationally excellent, the highest research ranking.
The University of Nottingham offers almost 6,000 rooms, ranging from modern self-catering flats to conventional halls of residence, all conveniently located near the university. Nottingham owns and manages 15 halls that house around 4,000 students across three campuses.
The catered accommodation includes three meals per day from a wide menu. Rooms accessible to students with disabilities are available on each campus, including larger rooms for more storage or workspace, adapted bathrooms, and facilities for people with hearing impairments.
University Park Campus, located west of the city center, is the University of Nottingham's main campus and one of the most beautiful in the United Kingdom. The city of Robin Hood is likewise steeped in history, with outstanding cultural, sporting, nightlife, and shopping opportunities.
Nottingham is around 90 minutes by train from London, and East Midlands and Birmingham airports are both nearby. The university also has campuses in Malaysia and China, in Semenyih and Ningbo, respectively.
