The City Institution of London is a public research university in the London Borough of Islington. It began as the Northampton Institute in 1894 and became a university in 1966 when The City University was established by royal licence. The University's motto is "To Serve Mankind." Anne, Princess Royal, is the University's chancellor. It opened the UK's first aeronautical laboratory 100 years ago and now offers the world's largest Master's programme in the aviation business.

City University London has one of the largest percentages of postgraduate students of any university in the United Kingdom. Most undergraduate programmes include a work placement, providing students with a fantastic opportunity to obtain job experience while they study. Since 1976, City has been home to the highly acclaimed Department of Journalism, a centre for journalism education. It is recognised as one of the greatest universities in the UK for journalism studies, as well as the country's largest journalistic education centre.City is a founding member of the WC2 University Network, which was established to foster collaboration among leading universities in the heart of major world cities, with the goal of addressing cultural, environmental, and political issues that are of common concern to world cities and their universities.

The Association of MBAs, EQUIS, and Universities UK are all members of the university. A Founding Father, members of the United Kingdom Parliament, Prime Ministers of the United Kingdom, governors, legislators, and CEOs are among City's alumni.

Services for International Students

International Student Advisors are located in the Student Centre and are ready to provide advice and assistance to any international students who are studying, or considering studying, at City, University of London. International students are welcomed with unique festivities at the start of the semester, as well as induction and orientation events hosted by Schools and Departments. International student societies are represented by the Students' Union and offer social activities throughout the year.

Accommodation

All six City, University of London halls of residence are within walking distance of the University, and each bedroom has a computer and phone connection. First-year undergraduate students are provided housing, and private leased housing is readily available near the University and around London. The Accommodation Team also runs an internet search engine for privately rented housing in London.

Location

Islington is home to the City, University of London's campus. Many prominent London sights, such as St. Paul's Cathedral, the British Museum, and the River Thames, are less than 2 kilometres away.
