Cardiff Metropolitan University has roughly 12,000 students from 140 different nations enrolled across three campuses in Wales' capital city. It was founded in 1865 as the Cardiff School of Art and Design, and in 2011 it separated from the University of Wales to become an autonomous university.

The International Office is open all year to assist students with issues such as housing, visas, finances, and health. International students can get one-on-one or group English language tutoring for academic or general purposes.
Cardiff Metropolitan University has been named Wales' best new university on multiple occasions in recent years. Cardiff Met was named the finest post-1992 institution in the UK in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework. The University's submitted research was recognised as 'world leading' or 'internationally good' in 80 percent of cases.
Almost 1,000 rooms are currently available in university-owned housing, with another 700 rooms accessible through university agreements with private halls of residence near campus. Some housing is set aside for overseas students. The majority of rooms on the Cyncoed Campus are catered, however there are also self-catered and en suite options. All rooms are en suite and self-catered and are located 3 kilometres from the Plas Gwyn campus.
